Sikkim Diary 4

Visit to Namchi

The little state Sikkim of India has much things to offer from pilgrimage, trekking, adventure sports to just relaxing.

Namchi and Chardham was included in our visit. So, on second day, after visiting Temi tea factory we started for Namchi with the assigned driver. The trip Namchi was arranged totally by Temi Tea. We just sat in the car, and headed  there.

In Sikkimese lanaguage nam means sky, and  chi means high. So, Namchi means sky-high . It is very much synonymous as it is located at the elevation of 5,500 feet. Although we went to visit the Namchi Monetary, but Namchi has many things to offer to the adventurous people like paragliding.

It was a cloudy day, typical May weather in the mountain. The crisp air was really refreshing during  the drive  towards Namchi Monastery. After first few kilometers of bumpy ride due the construction works the road was fine.

Again we experienced another nerve wrecking drive. I think as it was the first experience in the Himalayan mountain, I became scare more than anyone else.

Although it was foggy and cloudy, but it was not cold. We entered the calm serene monastery amid green of majestic Himalayan range. The little road to the enchanting Monastery made the mind automatically calm.
The fog was so dense we couldn't see the gigantic statue of Guru Padmasambhava, the patron saint of Sikkim on Samdruptse Hill, Namchi.

Slowly the sun started coming out, and we could see the beauty of the Monastery. After spending some time there we went to Chaardham, the replica Badrinath, Dwaraka, Puri, and Rameswaram. We didn't spend much times there. Actually, we didn't went inside.

We had more work to finish in Temi, so we came back from there.

Interesting reading about your trip and the photos are wonderful to see, as we don't see those things here.
Thanks for sharing.

Dearest Krishna,
Wow, that is such a beautiful area.
We had a colleague at Pond's India who came from this region and he fondly talked about its beautiful gardens and such.
Glad you got to visit here.
Your blog still is not showing up in the side line... only a very old one but not your newest. Guess what?
My blog quit showing up by its newest post too. Don't know what to do about it as my FeedBurner tells me it is all right.
Hate this and so much time loss.
On June 30 my Dad passed away, peacefully in his chair in his garden.
We feel so very grateful for having visited him and talked for hours and said our forever goodbye when he was for 2 days in the hospital, on Father's Day and then we left. My 6 siblings have not said their goodbye... they did not see the signs but in my heart I knew in January that we must go back to The Netherlands in order to get a final chance to see Dad! I picked up certain things while he talked on the phone... my gut feeling once more was spot on. So grateful for following my instincts: http://bit.ly/2J49iZH
You can read from link.
I've been almost done posting about our Viking cruise: PASSAGE TO EASTERN EUROPE and it did bring fond memories for both of us. Great for reliving it after sorting out the photos and telling their story.
Sending you hugs and I'm also in favor of Road Trips as indeed you can have most everything with you in the car!
With the weight restrictions travel by air is complicated and also for an elderly person like my husband with very weak heart it is getting tough...
Happy weekend!
Mariette
