Rhode Island

Again the sky showed the gloomy face in morning.  We were almost at the end of our ten day long road trip. All of us  were already super exhausted. The exhaustion overpowered me so badly, I didn’t simply want to visit the historic Rhode Island. It was very unlikely. The historical buildings, the museums, anything historical always attract me. I didn’t even read anything about the historical mansions of Rhode Island.

It was just two hours drive from Hartford. Soon we crossed one bridge, and entered in the smallest state of the US. Though the state is small, but it is full of history.
As soon as we reached the downtown, heavy rain started. On the top of that we couldn’t get any parking there. We slowly drove, and reached  in front of Providence college. The buildings from the colonial era is standing tall amid beautiful nature.

We decided to park the car there, and took a stroll near the beach. But, again rain forced us to run back inside the car. We decided to drive around the island.
Breaker’s Mansion

I already told you that I didn’t read anything before going. So, I didn’t have any idea from where to start. While driving we reached before a huge mansion , where everyone was rushing. The mansion looked so interesting, that I asked Mr. Man to stop the car somewhere, so that we could look around.

Later I found out that is Breaker’s Mansion. This mansion once belonged to Vanderbilt family which was the symbol of their social and financial status in 19th century America.

Anyway, we again came to the downtown, and managed to park the car. We had no proper destinations. We just started walking on the empty roads on that cloudy dark day. Every old building was attaching me. I felt a strong urge to go inside each of them to find the out the history. I started imaging the grandeur life of the then residents of the golden time of those mansions. Very few of them most probably still in use. Other buildings are now of historical society, and converted into museum.

We had not much time in hand to go inside of any of the buildings. Also, we were not in mood to walk anymore. Out of nothing kiddie was bickering with us. So, we shortened our walking, and went directly to the Tennis Hall Of Fame just to take look inside. The sky was also not in our favor. Moreover, we had another two hours of driving to reach Cape Cod, our last stop of the trip.

We quickly grab a little snack and a cup of coffee, and headed toward Cape Cod.

Wow, those are some huge mansions. Too bad about the rain and parking problems and you all being exhausted. You really packed a lot in to your 10 day trip so it’s not surprising you were tired.

Oh how neat...the very first vacation that my husband and I took together was to Cape Cod, and I remember that we stopped in Rhode Island to see some of the old, historic mansions there.
