Visit to Portsmouth

After a failed tour in Boston Downtown ,we had a good sleep at that night. Next morning we were all fresh and ready for our tour to Portsmouth. Actually, our main goal was to see the fall foliage is this trip. So we chose the first week of October. According to prediction, it was the best time of this year for foliage. However, most of the trees were green. That was a little disappointment. Anyway, the East coast is always beautiful. It is specially beautiful to me as I live in west coast . Coming from a barren land, the vibrant green covered part of the country always attracts me.

The weather was little damp and windy. The overcast sky and greenery with little fall color gave a mystical look to the nature. All the way I couldn’t stop me to taking pictures. The lush green forest on both sides of the freeway, very little traffic, and a little drizzle created a very different environment . While crossing bridges to go harbor trail, the dark green forest across the bay with beautiful fairytale houses peeking through just gave heavenly look. The road to harbor trail was a narrow street with picturesque houses on both sides. The houses of the East coast are very different from west coast. Most of the houses have small windows with beautiful decorative curtains instead of binds(may be they have blinds, but I couldn’t see from outside) Those frilly curtains give the houses a very different look from outside. On the top of that, the vibrant colored gardens added extra beauty. I was lamenting to Mr. Man that how much we give to our garden we never achieved this greenery back home.

When we reached the harbor we found that the area is under US Navy, and there was no parking area. We parked the car on curbside for few minutes to get down and take few pictures. But, the place was so beautiful I just wanted to stay there more time. The cold wind was making little wave on the bay, swaying small boats and yachts moored there. The place was very calm, as if no one was living there.

Then our plan to visit Island of Shoal. The google map took us through the downtown of Portsmouth. Portsmouth downtown is very beautiful and elegant with all the red brick buildings. The place was very vibrant and happening. People were walking down the streets, beautiful boutique shops on both sides, and mouth watering restaurants made the place very happening. Like the downtown we faced difficulty to park the car.

Anyway, we couldn’t find how to go to Island of shoal. Then after walking here and there we found out that we had to take ferry to the islands which was not operating at that time. Then we decided to walk around the downtown, and we saw few of the historic houses. Though there were few points in my list, but most of them were historic houses turned museum.

We were tired, so we decided to go back after visiting USS Albacore.

I want to visit Hog Island. My sister lives in Maine and has spoke about the Island. I understand half are in N.H. and half in Maine? I found this website and I must check this out myself. http://www.seacoastnh.com/Places-and-Events/Isles-of-Shoals/How-to-Visit-the-Isles-of-Shoals/
I love your pictures. Looks to be many small windows in the homes and the lace curtains must be pretty to see in the night with their lamps inside on in the homes.
The leaves here in Va. are just beginning to show color more. Seems late this year. I hope to be able to travel out to the mountains next week end to check them out there.
Happy Sunday
Betsy
