Failed Hiking in Dipsea trail

The lush green mountains of Main County always attract me. So, when we decided to go on a hiking, I first searched for trails in Main County. On the top of that, Mr. Man didn’t want to walk on any bare mountain trail on a hot day. When I searched for trails in Main County, Dipsea trail came in first. The pictures captivated my such a way I couldn’t imagine of searching any other trail.

Beautiful Marin County

However the story was different. Actually that was my fault. I didn’t check properly on Internet what exactly we need to do before going there. As per our plan we had a heavy brunch, and started for the day hike. As soon as we entered the Marin County, the weather changed totally from hot and dry to cold and foggy. Once in a while I enjoy this cold and foggy weather, especially on hot summer day.
Mr. Man had been driving forever on the meandering road on the thick green mountain. Every now and then little drizzle hit the window screen, giving us a refreshing sense. At last driving for more that an hour we reached the parking area of Dipsea trail head. To out utter surprise, we found out that we need to reserve parking prior going there. I asked the helping guy for solution. The solution surprised me more. He told me to drive all the way Sausalito, which was fifteen minutes away from the trailhead, parked the car, and comeback by public bus.

We saw the incoming bus to the trail

That was too much work to do. I asked him just to go back home. Making U-turn on mountain road is not possible. So, we drove forward to find a way to comeback. Then we noticed the sign of “Muir beach overlook”. As we had nothing to do, we went there to take a look.

That was a good decision we made. We got free parking, and plenty of spaces were left. The chilly gusty wind with little sprinkle welcomed us. The lightly grey-blue calm Pacific opened up in front of our eyes when we look down from the cliff. The beautiful wooden walkways were built to go at the end of the cliff to see the ocean directly down. It was so cold, We couldn’t stand for long, as we were not snipped with much cold gears. We stayed there for half an hour.

We saw some dome shaped structures. My son told me they were bunkers made long back for watching. He was right. My 5th grader is really smart.

The view was really splendid. The tree covered green mountains abruptly went down to the beautiful Pacific Ocean created a picturesque view to the nature lovers. I think there are trails go down directly to the ocean. I saw few people were standing on the rocks directly below of the vista point. From the vista point when look above we saw the white cloud scudded inside , indicating rain. Far away we could see a small sand beach, which is actually the Muir beach lurking within the mountain.

We had nothing more to do there. We couldn’t find any other trail walk near the vista point. So we decided to come back. However, that was a very pleasant experience which we didn’t plan.
