A day trip to Lake Berryessa

First we thought of visiting Russian River in Mendocino County, but it was nearly impossible to make it a day trip. So, we decided to visit Napa Valley, instead of just the Wine County. Though we visited Napa many times, but the rolling hills and miles after miles vineyard always attract me. The valley always looks fresh to me. We first visited Napa long back with our then little baby.

Instead of roaming around the Wine Country we decided to drive to Lake Berryessa . I’ve never visited Lake Berryessa . First we went to Yountville, just to go visit Bouchon Bakery. Mr. Man never misses Bouchon Bakery while visiting Napa. Another attraction was Castello Di Amorosa, the ancient Roman palace styled winery.

Yountville

Anyway, after visiting Castello Di Amorosa, we drove through the meandering roads of the Green Napa Valley to Lake Berryessa. Leaving behind the Wine Country, which was crowded with tourist on a beautiful sunny December day. The weather was very nice and mellow. One light jacket was enough for that day. The roads were almost deserted. The tree covered mountains looked fresh after few spells of December showers.

We reach the lake in the middle of the day, but the place was totally deserted. I think people usually go there in summer to picnic. Only two bikers were talking, and in the middle of the lake we could see a fishing boat.

We strolled down the bank of the lake just to take a good view of the beautiful scene place. The soft sun was shinning brightly on the cobalt blue color of the water. The gentle breeze was making little ripples on the water, helping the sun to  make golden color tiny stars on the surface of the water. We stood there and watch the solitary fishing boat. I was wondering who could be the fisherman. Anyway, after spending some time there, again we started our journey back though the almost empty mountain road.

Best time to go places like this is when hardly no one else does. That's why I like the beach in the winter. Hardly anyone else there and it's quiet all except for the sound of the ocean. Such pretty rock in the last picture of the water. It certainly was a crisp and clear day. Looks like even the wildlife decided to lay low. Deserted roads to travel without stress of other traffic made even more for a pleasant day take in the surroundings.
