Drving through Whit Mountain

While driving through beautiful roads of Maine, Mr. Man told me that our next destination was the scenic rout in White Mountain. I asked how could any place be more beautiful than what we already had seen. However, the beauty was waiting for us on that rain drenched day.

Leaving behind the small towns we started driving through narrow meandering road of the mountain. The rain started pouring heavily. Even the wipers in full speed couldn’t make the vision clear.

The tree covered rugged mountain was almost deserted on that rain drenched day. We saw only handful of cars since we left Kangamangus highway. I was eager to see the beauty of the mountain. The rain slowed down gradually to shower. Though the sky was covered with dark gray cloud which was slowly coming down covering the top of the high mountain range. At the bottom we were passing through narrow serpentine road with bright yellow colored trees. We could hear the roaring sound of water. Then I figured out that a river was flowing on the side of the road, and water pounding from boulder to boulder with full force making a great splashing sound. I wanted to capture the beauty of the free flowing river. But rain God was smiling. As soon as I asked Mr.Man to stop the car, the rain came down on us pelting the car window. Also the gusty wind paired with rain resisted me to get the full view of the lovely river. I was really disheartened.  At last we saw a little parking lot, and decided to stop few minutes. I got down from the car with camera and umbrella.  With an unfurled umbrella taking picture was difficult. So with a great disappointment we decided to drive to our little village hotel.

However,  beauty of nature was pulling us behind. We could not help, but got down again near a cliff. The mountain was shrouded with dense cloud, we couldn't see where was in the gorge. The trees on dark evening looked brighter to me. We stood there , and imbibe the beauty of the nature on the deserted mountain at that very moment holding ourselves tight together to beat the severe cold. We forgot that we had drive another 20 miles in rough weather through unknown mountain road depending on the GPS.

But again heavy rain and wind brought back us to reality. We started slowly toward our hotel.

Oh Krishna, how gorgeous. Isn't it fun when you think "Nothing could be better than this"--and then something is! I missed much of fall during our visit to Europe this October -- a little early for there, a little late when I got home. So seeing color makes me so happy. Thanks for coming by Marmelade Gypsy today. I'll be headed to England (with a few diversions for holiday cheer and fun at home!) so I hope you'll return!

I've tried juggling an open umbrella and a camera, LOL. You are right, it's nearly impossible. :-)

Nice fall photos of colorful trees. Weather gets in the way of photography for sure. I had my daughter hold onto my tripod taking photos of a lighthouse at the coast years ago. Wind came up while we were there. Then we got back in the car. Glad you had a good drive. Take care!
