Drive from Verona to north Conway

After a tiring day in Acadia National Park, we couldn’t get up early in the morning. When I opened up my eyes, I saw dark outside. I thought I woke up early. Actually, the sky was dark with gray cloud, and the rain was pelting on the skylight of the roof. The day before it was hot and sunny. We were talking about the heat, now it was dark, gloomy, and cold.

I had lots of jobs to finish. I did laundry the day before, and I had a pile to be folded and packed in suitcase. Around 11 we finished everything and started our journey from Verona to North Conway.

We packed our car, and started our journey of the day. It was long way to reach north Conway. We decided not to take freeways. That was an absolutely right decision we made. As we started driving through the surface routes, we didn’t need to drive fast. As Maine is not much populate state so the roads were almost empty. We didn’t get any traffic, rather we got the whole time to fully see the rain drenched fall color of Maine.

The both sides of the narrow roads were full of trees with different fall colors. Some trees were crimson red, some were bright yellow, some were orange. The combination of red, orange, yellow, some time magenta with dark evergreen tree in between made a heavenly ambience on that day. As the roads were almost empty we could drove the in low speed. Every bend of those meandering roads opened up with some natural surprise before our eyes.

I already mention in my previous posts, that the beauty I most enjoyed the waterbodies. Every now and then we crossed little rivers, creeks, lakes , and ponds. On that overcast day the flowing of water on the windshield due to the drizzle outside  and the silence except the sound of rain made a mesmerizing beauty of the nature. It was like we were in a different land full of colors.

Only few spots we could stop the car to take a pictures. As it was raining ,all of us didn’t get out of the car. I quickly got down and took some pictures. I didn’t want to miss any opportunity of taking picture.

Suddenly we came across a lake, it was so beautiful that we desperately wanted to get down and take a good look. However, at that moment heavy downpour started and we didn’t get a chance to get down. Sadly we passed the lake and decided to come back the day after.
Gradually we left the little villages, and started going towards the White Mountain. It was only afternoon, but the sky was so dark that it looked like evening. The roads started getting narrower and narrower. We started getting  more and more scenic views outside. But didn’t get a chance to get down, as heavy rain was pelting outside.

Next is coming our White Mountain visit.
