HAPPY HALLOWEEN

Dear friends,

It is too late to wish you ‘HAPPY HALLOWEEN’. Still, ‘Better let than never’. Actually I was extremely preoccupied with some others jobs, I couldn’t make time to post for Halloween. This year I decorated my home with some of my handmade Halloween decoration. Actually I thought of doing many things, but I ended up finishing few of them. I took too much time to finish every item. Also, I’ve to take care of a little monster. That little one takes a lion portion of time of the day. Anyway, here I’m putting some of my creations.  Enjoy the rest of the Halloween.

Loads of Love

Creamy broccoli

I had a big bag of broccoli florets in my refrigerator. However, at home nobody was interested to have broccoli. So, I wanted to cook something interesting with broccoli. Few days back I read a recipe with broccoli, but I couldn’t remember the actual recipe. I decided, to cook something from my mind. The result was yummy.
Ingredients:
Handful of broccoli florets (I took almost 3 cups of florets, but after cooking it reduced to 1 cup)
One egg
One small onion
One tbsp and one tsp of all-purpose flower
One tsp sugar
Pinch of black pepper powder
Salt to taste
2 tbsp of oil
One cup cheese (I used cheddar cheese)
One tsp mustard sauce
One tsp sour cream
¾ th cup milk
Method:
In a heavy bottomed wok heat one tbsp. of oil. Add the broccoli floret in it. Add salt and cover the wok and keep it in medium heat. Stir occasionally. Cook the florets until they become tender. Meanwhile in a bowl mix one egg, one tbsp. of flour, sugar, pepper powder, and salt to make a fine batter. Pre-heat the oven at 350 degree. Grease an oven proof bowl, and pour the floret in it. On the top of it pour the batter. Then sprinkle cheese over it. Bake for half an hour.
For sauce:
Finely chop the onion. Heat one tbsp. of oil in a pan, fry onion until brown with little salt. Add one tsp. of flour. Fry until everything are well combined. Finely mix crème and milk in a bowl. Pour the mixture into the pan. Add mustard sauce into it, stirring constantly as it thickens. Add more milk depending on desired consistency.
Serving style:
Take out the broccoli on a plate and pour the sauce over it. Serve hot.

Mixed vegetable curry

If you ask what dish first your mother taught you, I will answer none. Yes, it is true. My mother never taught me to cook. Only one time in my life she asked me to learn cooking. That was a very funny story. One day after my high school final examination she asked me to prepare tea. When I serve the tea, it was already cold. Everyone at home loves to have steaming hot tea. My mother asked me, why I didn’t not heat the tea before serving. I answered that, heating up tea many time caused lead secretion. From that day she never asked me to cook. I also never took the hassle of cooking. However, I usually watched her cooking, while talking with her. By this way I learned the basics of cooking. Though she never taught me to cook or do anything to be a ‘good’ daughter-in-law, but she taught me to be strong. She taught me how to accustom myself in any condition. She taught me how to live life only with bare necessities. Till now she is a minimalist. She is the only lady I have seen in my life without any desires. I never saw her to demand anything to my father. She is a person like water. Water takes the shape of the container where you keep. She also accustoms herself with any condition. When my husband asks me why I don’t have any demand, I answer, this is my mother’s teaching.  Long back, one morning suddenly she felt very sick. At that time I was sleeping. She called me asked me cook. That was the first day in my life I cooked. I cooked an entire Bengali lunch. My father just was taken aback in my accomplishment. He called all our relatives and told that for the first time I cooked in my life, and all dishes were tasty. Anyway, when you asked me to write something about her, all these memories flooded my mind.
Here I’m giving one very simple recipe of mixed vegetable curry which my mother cooks.
One cup of chopped pumpkin
One cup of chopped carrot
One cup of chopped long beans
One cup chopped eggplant (optional)
One big bowl of chopped spinach
One tsp cumin powder
One tsp coriander powder ( she use to make paste of cumin and coriander seeds)
half tsp randhuni seed paste( wild celery)( I didn’t have in my kitchen, so I Couldn’t use it)
One tbsp. oil
Pinch of turmeric
Salt to taste
For tampering:
paanch phoron ( five spices)

Method:
Heat one tbsp. of oil; add all the vegetables, except the spinach. Cover the wok, and fry for few minutes. Add salt and turmeric, and fry for another few minutes. Then add all the spices. Stir and cover the wok. Wait for few minutes. Then add the spinach, and stir. Cover and cook for a while. In the mean time add one cup of water, if needed. Boil for 10 minutes. The curry is done. Serve with rice or roti.

Boo!!

Four years back I made this card and sent to all of my Orkut friends. After four long years, this time I decided to make some small decoration for Halloween at home. I thought that I could finish them before October. However, still I’m struggling to finish. Every item has been taking much longer time, than I thought. Currently I’ve become very busy with my studies. Let see how much I could do.

After finishing the decoration I'll upload photos.
This much is for today. Bye. :)

The mess that I made

10/04/2012

Since morning I had been making mistakes one after another. First of all, though I knew that, I had an appointment with physiotherapist at 9:40, I was doing all the works very slowly. I was under the impression that, I needed to start from home at 9:15. When it was almost 9:15 I realized my mistake. In no time I got ready and rushed to the bus stop. As usual I didn’t get the bus. It was already 9:25. I call my hubby dear. The poor guy rushed from office to take me to the place.

Anyway, I had an ample of time in my hand after attending the physiotherapy session. As usual I decided to go to Michaels’. I called Him, and told my plan. He asked me to sit at nearby Starbucks, after I finished my shopping in Michaels’. So that he could pick me up while coming home with our little one. I told him that I would call him. After entering Michaels’ I forgot everything. I started browsing from aisle to aisle. All those lovely things were beckoning me. I was mused so much; I forgot to watch the time. I planned that, this year I would decorate home for Fall and Halloween. I started picking things for Halloween. I got a discount coupon of Martha Stewart products. So I searched for Martha Stewart Halloween papers. Unfortunately I didn’t found. I didn’t know where my mind was, I just didn’t care to call him to pick me up. He also didn’t know where I was. He thought that I was at home. At 12:36 I came out from the store and I called him to pick me up. His jaws fell apart. He told that he almost reached home. Oh no!!!! What a mess I made. I told that I would come by bus. However, I knew that it would take almost one hour to reach home by bus. He asked me just to wait. He again came back, picked me up and came home.

However, that I did shopping at my fullest. I was very satisfied. Whatever I wanted to buy, I bought almost all the things. :)
